The Advanced Environmental Solutions Prize is one of the six sections of the Eni Award, composed by the Energy Transition, Energy Frontiers, Young Researcher of the Year, Young Talents from Africa Prizes and “Eni for Innovation” Recognition. The aim of the Advanced Environmental Solutions Prize is to foster the development of a sustainable and resilient nature within a continuously changing climate scenario, through the enhancement of nature-based solutions, and the preservation and restoration of natural capital, in order to accelerate the transition towards environmentally sustainable business models, accordingly with the “One Planet – One Health” perspective.
In particular, the Prize aims at enhancing scientific and technological innovation for the protection and sustainable use of natural resources, such as land, air, water and oceans, along with the promotion of biodiversity, taking also into consideration their connection with human health.
Object of the Prize and evaluation criteria
The Prize is awarded to the researcher or group of researchers who have achieved internationally significant research and development results in the field of environmental stewardship, including climate change adaptation, mitigation and remediation strategies, such as:
- Biodiversity and natural habitat protection;
- Innovative nature-based solutions;
- Ecosystem restoration;
- Environmental remediation;
- Solutions to reduce soil consumption;
- Water stewardship;
- Solutions to improve air quality;
- Sustainable use of natural resources.
The following elements will be considered in the assessment of the Candidatures:
- The scientific relevance, innovation and application potential of the proposal;
- The contribution to identify solutions for achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs);
- The contribution to a circular and regenerative economy;
- The socio-economic and environmental impacts of the proposal, even in a long-term perspective, within a “One Planet – One Health” approach;
- The use of innovative technologies, processes and experimental tools, enabling a holistic perspective of the proposal.
The results must have been achieved within a period of up to ten (10) years prior to the date of this Official Announcement.
The prize
The prize consists in:
- customized plaque;
- an indivisible sum1 of €200,000 (Two hundred thousand Euros);
- direct provision by Eni of travel tickets roundtrip, transfers and board and lodging expenses (for up to 2 overnight stays, for the winners and maximum one accompanying person in order to participate to the Prize-Giving Ceremony).
The Prize will be awarded to the winners, proclaimed by the Organizing Committee within July 2025. An Official Prize-Giving Ceremony to award the winning Candidate will be held in Italy tentatively during the second semester of the year following the publication of the Official Announcement.
