The impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean region are particularly severe, jeopardizing essential ecosystem services such as biodiversity and carbon storage. In this webinar we will explore both the challenges and opportunities associated with adaptive management, placing a special emphasis on assisted migration as a key strategy to bolster forest resilience. Our discussion will feature the first continent-wide analysis of assisted migration in European forests, highlighting patterns of local adaptation in crucial tree species.

Furthermore, we will delve into the complexities of selecting the appropriate tree species for planting—a task that is far from trivial and necessitates careful consideration of numerous interdependent factors. Addressing these aspects is vital for sustaining the Mediterranean forest carbon sink in the face of future climate scenarios.

These webinars offer the opportunity to explore key questions for research, policy and practice in the weeks leading up to the event. Through these webinars, relevant discussion points will be identified for subsequent discussion during the 8MFW. This is your chance to join the discussion on forest adaptation, biodiversity, fires and green cities, in the context of the week’s global theme on sustainable and resilient Mediterranean forests.

The results of the webinars will be used, together with the results of the discussion during the plenary sessions and the content of the posters presented at the 8MFW. All webinars in this cycle will be recorded; If you can’t attend, you can always watch the recording to better prepare for the event!
