PLAN

We are all aware of the impact that Homo sapiens has on the planet and how important it is to find as soon as possible strategies that protect the environment and develop efficient restoration works, wherever man has caused damage. With this awareness, “World Environment Day 2024” yes focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience, themes that well they reflect the current conditions of the Earth, which sees climate change materialize in extreme events with alarming impacts along all supply chains, up to human health. In this scenario, the Accademia dei Lincei identifies ecology as the interdisciplinary science that is done environmental protection tool. Through the study of interactions between living organisms and the surrounding environment, with the related flows of matter and energy, Ecology has become a branch of knowledge where different disciplines meet, from physics to biology, from chemistry to computer science, from sciences of the earth to medicine. During the meeting we will remember how Ecology is studied in Italian universities for more than a century it has been providing tools to face today’s great environmental challenges affecting resources natural resources (water, land, soil, biodiversity) and human health.
