The European Arianna project, approved under the IPA ADRION 2021-2027 Programme, aims to improve resilience to climate change and natural disasters, with a particular focus on flood prevention in the Adriatic-Ionian area.
By using nature-based solutions (NBS), the project aims to promote not only conservation but also the well-being of ecosystems, bringing environmental, social, and economic benefits.
The main actions include:
- The creation of a Joint Transnational Climate Resilience Strategy, which will provide guidelines and specific NBS-based actions to be tested through pilot actions.
- Pilot actions implementing NBS, such as retention basins, multi-risk vulnerability assessment, and improving the Firefighters’ capabilities.
- Capacity-building activities to enhance disaster response capabilities.
The project includes a monitoring phase that will result in a summary document for flood risk prevention and other climate-related disasters. A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed, and training activities will be carried out to raise awareness of the use of NBS, with the creation of forums for exchanging best practices and transferring project results.
